Con 4x4 Introduces The New Derelict 1971 Mercedes 300sel

World-Class Automotive Builder Unveils Modernized 1970s Mercedes that Once Symbolized Luxury in its Finest Form

CON 4×4 (ICON), a world-renowned automotive builder and designer, is proud to introduce the new Derelict 1971 Mercedes 300SEL to their collection of bespoke resto-modified builds. Originally celebrated as a symbol of luxury in the late 1960s and early 1970s, ICON has elevated this timeless Mercedes 300SEL. All this with industry-best engineering to create the perfect blend of vintage beauty and modernity designed to deliver the very best of both worlds out on the open road. With all modern upgrades masterfully blended into the original vintage Mercedes car design, this incredibly detailed bespoke custom is sure to appeal to enthusiasts and collectors alike when it debuts at SEMA 2022 in Las Vegas at the Optima Batteries booth.

At ICON 4×4, our speciality is preserving everything that we love about vintage cars while making them more fun and enjoyable to drive, comments Jonathan Ward, Lead Designer and Founder of ICON 4×4. Our new Derelict 1971 Mercedes 300SEL showcases our approach to car building with innovative engineering and meticulous attention to every detail. Modern elements, such as a powerful new engine and upgraded sound system are all discreetly tucked within the original vehicle layout in a period-correct manner. Resulting in an eye-catching classic ready to perform amiably in modern driving conditions.

Powered by a GM LS9 engine paired with a hand-built 4L85E automatic transmission, ICONs Derelict 1971 Mercedes 300SEL features a richly unaltered time-aged patina exterior with touches of stainless steel and chrome finishes. The newest Derelict from ICON is built on a custom full chassis frame by Art Morrison and includes 4-wheel adjustable coil overs with an independent rear suspension. For an even further elevated driving experience, ICON incorporated a power rack and pinion steering along with Sport brakes by Brembo amplified by Hydratech power assist to safely slow down the vehicle at any speed.

ICON took great care to integrate new custom plumbing and wiring throughout the vehicle, which distinguishes it from other builds of its kind. One-piece billet aluminium wheels machined by EVOD mated with top-of-the-line tires ensure smooth, controlled driving on any surface. ICON also introduced subtle LED lighting systems for better visibility and lower energy consumption.

ICONs extensive interior upgrades are inspired by original Mercedes styling and feature the finest materials and restored wood trim throughout. The original stereo has been carefully modified to control the upgraded audio system hidden underneath and includes Bluetooth connectivity, four Focal two-way speakers, and a dual subwoofer and amplifier. For further comfort and enjoyment, ICON has also incorporated heated front seats and a modern HVAC system.

Available on a special commission basis, the starting price for an ICON 4×4 Derelict build is $450,000.
