On the rugged coastline outside Cape Town, where off-road culture and craftsmanship meet, a truly unique vehicle was born. This extraordinary machine, known simply as Thor, is not your typical Jeep Wrangler. It is a fully customised 3.6-litre V6 six-wheel Wrangler, transformed from a brand-new vehicle into a commanding, purpose-built machine designed for both everyday driving and serious adventure.
Thor’s story begins with a 2024 Jeep Wrangler, delivered brand new with only 204 km on the clock. From the moment it arrived, it was destined for something far beyond factory specifications. The owner entrusted the project to Two Old Dogs Customs, a specialist custom shop located on the West Coast just outside Cape Town, known for their passion for unique builds and meticulous craftsmanship.
Over the course of two intense months, the team at Two Old Dogs Customs completely reimagined the vehicle — turning a standard Wrangler into a head-turning six-wheel powerhouse.
A Ground-Up Custom Build
What makes Thor particularly impressive is that this is not a build based on bolt-on parts alone. Nearly every component was either custom fabricated specifically for this vehicle or sourced internationally to meet the exact vision of the project.
From the first sketch to the final bolt, the goal was clear: create a vehicle that looked aggressive, performed flawlessly, and remained practical enough for daily use.
The extensive modifications included:
-
Full 6-wheel conversion
-
Custom front and rear bumpers
-
Custom bonnet design
-
Windshield shroud modification
-
Custom roof rack system
-
Full Teraflex suspension upgrade
-
Seven 35-inch wheels and tyres
-
Custom fender flares all around
-
Bespoke side steps
The most striking feature is undoubtedly the six-wheel configuration, which completely transforms the Wrangler’s stance and capability. Converting a four-wheel vehicle into a six-wheel platform is no simple task. It requires precise engineering, structural reinforcement, and careful suspension setup to ensure the vehicle remains balanced, reliable, and capable both on-road and off.
Built to Perform, Built to Work
Despite its extreme appearance, Thor isn’t just a showpiece. The owner uses the vehicle daily, proving that serious custom builds can still be practical.
One of its main roles is towing the owner’s boat to various launch sites along the West Coast, an area known for its rugged terrain, sandy tracks, and coastal conditions. The additional axle not only enhances the vehicle’s visual presence but also improves stability and load distribution — ideal for towing and off-road travel.
Combined with the Teraflex suspension system and 35-inch tyres, Thor is more than capable of handling the uneven coastal roads and trails that come with life near the ocean.
A Signature Build from Two Old Dogs Customs
Projects like Thor represent the philosophy behind Two Old Dogs Customs: creating vehicles that are completely unique, built with precision, and tailored to their owners' lifestyles.
As the builder behind the project, Paul, owner of Two Old Dogs Customs, oversaw every stage of the transformation.
The build required careful planning, fabrication, and sourcing of specialised components to ensure every detail worked together as a cohesive package. From the aggressive bodywork to the functional suspension and towing capability, Thor demonstrates what can happen when creativity and craftsmanship meet.
A West Coast Legend in the Making
Today, Thor turns heads wherever it goes. Whether cruising through town, parked at a boat launch, or tackling rough coastal tracks, it stands out as one of the most distinctive Jeep builds on South African roads.
More than just a modified Wrangler, Thor represents vision, engineering, and passion for custom automotive craftsmanship.
And for Two Old Dogs Customs, it’s another example of what’s possible when you take a standard vehicle and dare to build something extraordinary.
