From Workhorse to Street Weapon: The Turbo Corsa Bakkie Build

It didn’t start out wild.

It started life as a standard Opel Corsa bakkie — simple, reliable, built to work. But like most good builds, it only needed the right vision… and the right people… to turn it into something completely different.

The First Chapter

The transformation began when the late Justin Roberts from Big Boss Auto got involved. The bakkie was dropped low — not just for looks, but for stance. That first step changed its whole attitude. It no longer looked like a little workhorse. It looked ready for something serious.

Then the real fun started.

Boost Changes Everything

The motor came out and was properly worked over. This wasn’t a quick “bolt-on and hope” situation. It was built with intention.

A TB28 turbo was fitted — along with everything that makes boost worth it. Boost pipes, intercooler, dump valve — all the necessary bits to make it breathe properly and deliver power the right way. To complement the setup, an STK split turbo cam was added to sharpen things up and help the motor make the most of the forced induction.

The result?

On the dyno, it laid down a solid 143kW and 268Nm. For a lightweight Corsa bakkie, those numbers aren’t just impressive — they’re properly entertaining. The power-to-weight ratio turns this little pickup into something that surprises a lot of bigger machinery.

It’s the kind of build that doesn’t need to shout. The numbers speak for themselves.

Stance & Stopping Power

Power is one thing — but control matters.

It sits on a set of 17-inch wides and narrows wrapped in 205/40/17 tyres, giving it that aggressive street presence. The wider rear setup adds to the muscular look, while the lowered stance keeps everything planted and purposeful.

To make sure it stops as well as it goes, Opel Superboss front discs and calipers were fitted. Proper braking hardware for a build that clearly isn’t stock anymore. When you add power, you upgrade safety. Simple.

Built, Not Bought (Literally)

What makes this build special isn’t just the parts list — it’s the hands behind it.

The headlights were done personally. In fact, almost everything on this bakkie was done by the owner. From the custom touches to the finishing details, it wasn’t outsourced. It was built.

Under-glow lighting was added to give it that night-time presence. Inside, things get even more personal.

A custom interior box houses two 12-inch subs, powered through a dash head unit setup. It’s not just fast — it’s loud in more ways than one. The seats were recovered to freshen up the cabin, and interior LEDs — always-on blue — give it a signature glow that sets the mood instantly when the doors open.

Selective hydro-dipped parts add texture and contrast in just the right places. Not overdone. Not chaotic. Just enough to catch your eye.

More Than a Bakkie

What started as a standard Opel Corsa bakkie is now something else entirely.

It’s boosted. It’s lowered. It’s detailed. It’s personal.

It carries the influence of Justin Roberts’ early work, the performance punch of a properly set-up turbo build, and the unmistakable mark of an owner who put real time and hands-on effort into it.

This isn’t just another modified Corsa.

It’s a reminder that even the simplest platforms can become something serious — when built with passion, patience, and just the right amount of boost.
