Ted Bear, affectionately known to fans and fellow riders as Toy Run Ted, is still buzzing with exhilaration after his electrifying run up the hill at the Cape Town Hillclimb. With the crowd cheering him on and engines roaring all around, Ted made history in his own right — crossing the finish line and officially earning the title of “The Fastest Bear in Town.”
But while Ted might love the thrill of speed, he’s got a much deeper purpose behind his adventures. Beneath that racing spirit beats a heart fully devoted to one cause — helping children in need through the annual Toy Run.
For decades, the Toy Run has been a beloved institution in South Africa. It brings together thousands of bikers and car enthusiasts who ride not just for fun, but for charity. The event gathers toys and donations for orphaned and underprivileged children across the province and the country.
This year, the impact is set to be enormous — over twenty thousand children are expected to benefit from the Toy Run Cape Town (Ted’s home event) and other Toy Runs nationwide. Each toy collected represents a moment of joy, a smile, and a reminder that kindness still rides strong on South African roads.
Ted has become something of a mascot and ambassador for this cause. Regularly seen cruising around Cape Town, he often rides shotgun with his good friend Jim Page in his stunning Harper. Wherever they go, Ted draws attention, laughter, and love — especially from the kids.
He’s never too busy for a hug or a photo, and his soft fur and big smile remind everyone that even in the world of high-octane motors and roaring engines, compassion is what truly drives us forward.
As Ted likes to say, “Speed is fun, but giving is what really makes you fly.”
So, if you spot Toy Run Ted on the road or at an event, give him a wave, a cheer, or even a cuddle — and remember his message: Ride for joy. Ride for love. Ride for the kids.
