The restomod build features a Hellcat V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission wrapped in 4,000 build hours of custom modifications with this Ringbrothers Custom 1969 Dodge charger.
Ringbrothers, the legends of custom car building and billet wizardry, have dropped their latest masterpiece: a 1969 Dodge Charger they’ve named CAPTIV. This beast is no ordinary Charger — it’s packing a street-able 707 horsepower straight from a Mopar Hellcat crate engine, paired with a Tremec six-speed manual that lets you wrestle all that power with precision. The car was built for none other than New Zealand’s motorsports icon and TV personality, Greg Murphy, who had a clear vision from the start.
The journey began thousands of miles away in New Zealand, where the project was carefully prepped before shipping to Ringbrothers’ lair in Wisconsin. There, the Ringbrothers team went to work, fabricating metal like magicians — reshaping the Charger’s unibody and seamlessly integrating a custom Flowmaster exhaust system. Once the metal was flawless, they slapped on a killer coat of BASF’s Pile Up Yellow, a paint job that screams attention without shouting. Under the hood, the Hellcat crate engine was installed and filled with Motul oil — because performance and protection go hand in hand.
CAPTIV’s kit doesn’t stop there. Rolling on bespoke HRE wheels and fitted with a carbon-fiber driveshaft from QA1, this Charger handles every curve and straightaway with deadly grace. Adjustable RideTech shocks keep the suspension dialled in, while Baer’s six-piston brakes provide stopping power worthy of a car this quick. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires grip the asphalt, translating every ounce of horsepower into forward momentum. And with a top-tier MoTeC engine management system keeping an eye on everything, plus precision gauges, this is a Charger built for today’s racetrack as much as the streets.
Jim Ring, co-owner of Ringbrothers, says this build was a labour of love, spanning two continents and thousands of miles. “Greg and his team had done amazing groundwork before the car reached us, and bringing it all together here was an absolute joy.” Mike Ring chimed in, “This car’s story started in Detroit back in 1969 and found new life here in Spring Green in 2021. We couldn’t have done it without our partners like Motul, Holley, BASF, HRE Wheels, and more.”
One of the coolest touches is the brand-new custom Ringbrothers steering wheel, featuring cutting-edge materials like a 3D-printed horn button, carbon fiber hoops, and billet aluminium spokes. This isn’t just a one-off — Ringbrothers offers a line of billet aluminium parts for Charger enthusiasts wanting to add their own flair.
Behind the wheel of CAPTIV, you have Mopar Hellcat power, a Tremec T-56 six-speed gearbox, and a carbon-fiber driveshaft that’s both light and tough. The chassis and suspension come courtesy of Art Morrison, with RideTech drop spindles and sway bars ensuring razor-sharp handling. Out back, a Johns Industries nine-inch rear end keeps things planted. The exhaust is custom Flowmaster stainless steel, tuned for sound and performance.
HRE Wheels in 19x11 front and 20x13 rear sizes wear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires sized 295/35 at the front and a beefy 345/30 out back, while Baer six-piston calipers deliver stopping power that inspires confidence. Inside, Upholstery Unlimited crafted a full custom interior, where the new Ringbrothers Murph steering wheel takes centre stage alongside a MoTeC C1212 gauge cluster and a Vintage Air Gen IV Magnum A/C system to keep things cool. The stereo setup rocks a Fusion head unit and Kicker speakers for soundtrack-worthy drives.
CAPTIV isn’t just a Charger — it’s a rolling masterpiece, born in Detroit, reborn through Kiwi grit, and perfected by the Ringbrothers’ craftsmanship. This is what modern muscle looks like when heritage meets high-tech.
