Calling all petrolheads. It’s time to get revved up with the Motul at Idle Auto Fest 2022 happening on 21-22 May 2022, all roads lead to Mall of Africa in Midrand Gauteng.
The inaugural Motul at Idle Auto Fest 2022 (IAF2k22) is coming. This is a premium OEM and custom Auto Expo for cars, motorbikes, 4×4’s, and the associated culture. This is supported by Motul, who is on board as the official lubricant partner.

Idle Auto Fest will showcase some of the country’s best-customized rides that will be competing against each other for top honors. For the first time in South Africa however, there will be no less than four Show & Shine competitions simultaneously at a motor show. Entry to these competitions is open to privateers only.
This undoubtedly, will highlight and give prominence to the different types of vehicle customization. This includes stance, hot rods, muscle cars, classic cars, custom bikes, and race cars. This will indeed promote the automotive industry on a massive scale.
What is happening at the idle Auto Fest.
An array of automotive exhibitors will showcase their latest vehicles, products, and services in the vendor village. They will have offerings ranging from OEM parts and accessories, performance parts, in-car entertainment, apparel & merchandise, hobbies, and much more. Indoor go-karting and the Falken Tyres RC (radio control) drifting will tease the racer in you!
The Shield car care main arena will be a hype of entertainment throughout the weekend. A live DJ will keep your head bopping and your feet tapping. An MC will present various free entertaining contests for our visitors. For some excitement, the Pit Boss Challenge will test visitors’ Formula 1 Pit skills to see how fast they can change a wheel. There’s also an “It’s A Wrap” contest to see who can wrap a vehicle body part the best. In addition, there is also the “Nailed It!” tool competition.
If you feel like doing handstands in the shower, this is easily attainable when entering the Rocomamas Chilli Burger eating contest (you’ll have to supply your own refrigerated toilet paper). For those weirdly talented people who can mimic car sounds, look out for the “Motor Mouth” competition. Contestants will have to replicate car exhaust sounds by using their mouths. All of these competitions have phenomenal prizes awarded to the winners.
To add to the lifestyle element, MGHHDA (Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy) will promote and run a street dance competition over the two days. This involves competitors showing off their dance skills on stage in front of thousands of people. It is easy to see why there really will be something for everyone.
“Other than the beautiful vehicles and interactive exhibitions, our main focus is to have our spectators involved in as much activity as possible and so that is why we have put together these fun contests in our arena with absolutely no entry costs at all”, commented Alistair Andrew, Idle Brands CEO & event organizer. He adds: “although entry into the expo is completely free for spectators, registration through the event’s website is mandatory to obtain your free pass.
We had to make it a free experience, especially after the two years that a virus held us captive. So, subsequently, we need to get out there and live again, promote businesses, and re-ignite the economy. For this reason with Idle Auto Fest, it is our endeavour to get the automotive industry to reconnect, and what better way to do it than at one of South Africa’s largest, busiest, and most prestigious malls?
We will celebrate a lifestyle, an experience, where the most innovative come together to showcase their automotive passion. In addition, the automotive community needs an enhanced event experience at no cost to the visitor. One fuelled by passion and dedication to craftsmanship and in addition to this, one where the best car builds are carefully chosen to rise above the rest. Lastly, one where the mix of our supportive OEM & aftermarket exhibitors are working in unison to offer this.”
